Excessive sweating has a solution!

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that causes a person to sweat excessively and unpredictably, even when the temperature is cool, or when the person is relaxed.

Hyperhidrosis can be uncomfortable and hinder the social and professional life of those who suffer from it. For example, excessive sweating of the underarms can stain clothes and also gives a bad aesthetic impression, while perspiration on the hands causes embarrassment when greeting.

Hyperhidrosis affects mainly the hands, feet and underarms. If it is left untreated it may lead to fungal infections of the nails, athlete’s foot or bad smell of the underarms (bromhidrosis). It can also increase the appearance of other skin diseases such as eczema, warts, atopic dermatitis, fungal infection of the nail, chilblains, folliculitis and unpleasant odors.

Due to the high temperatures that characterize the summer, this is the season in which more patients need to treat and control their problem of excessive sweating. The good news is that there is a corrective treatment for hyperhidrosis.

“According to some studies, hyperhidrosis occurs more frequently between the ages of 25 and 64, and in 40% of cases there is usually someone else in the family that suffers from it, which shows its hereditary tendency”

Botulinum toxin treatment – xeomin

The Botulinum Toxin is better known for its benefits in the aesthetic world to treat wrinkles and fine lines, than for its contributions to medicine. But in cases like this, botulinum toxin has therapeutic benefits that help to temporarily control the excess activity of the sweat glands and reduce the production of sweat in the area where it is applied.

The medical professional injects the botulinum toxin – Xeomin with an ultra-fine needle directly into the previously demarcated areas where the sweat glands, responsible for the production of sweat, are located. Xeomin will act as an inhibitor, blocking the chemical signals transmitted by the nerves, in this way the over production of sweat will be suspended.

The treatment of Hyperhidrosis with Botulinum Toxin has scientifically shown that after the first session, about 90% of patients, sweat much less or almost not at all. It has a relative duration of 5 to 12 months, depending on the patient’s metabolism, and it is a very efficient ambulatory solution for those who sweat in irregular quantities.

About 2% of the population has symptoms of hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. People of Asian origin, mainly Japanese, have a greater chance of developing the disease.
